Preheat oven to 350°F. Heat water to boiling in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat. Add rice and cook for 5 to 7 minutes. Drain.
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until tender. Remove from heat. Stir in rice and remaining ingredients. Spoon into a greased 2-quart baking dish and bake for 1 hour.
Makes 8 servings.
