Lone Star Barbecue Sauce

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • 2 teaspoons TABASCO® brand Original Red Sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard


Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until tender, about 5 minutes; add garlic and cook 1 minute longer. Stir in remaining ingredients and bring to a low boil; reduce heat to low and simmer 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Makes 3 1/2 to 4 cups.

A real Texas red sauce - great for beef.
