French Food Festival
Larose, LA
October 24-26, 2008

The cuisine of southern Louisiana owes a great deal to France. Much of Cajun cooking relies heavily on French culinary techniques and fundamentals. So the town of Larose, in the heart of southeastern Louisiana, is a natural location for a festival celebrating French food and its influence on the cuisine of Louisiana, especially considering nearly half the population of Larose is composed of French and French Canadian descendants.

Located at the Larose Regional Park at the intersection of the Intracoastal Canal and Bayou Lafourche, the French Food Festival features the best in Cajun cooking. Food lovers will find old favorites like crawfish étouffée and spicy boudin, but there’s also sure to be some delicious new discoveries. For example, unless you’re a Cajun food aficionado, you may not have encountered a Tarte à la Bouille. You’ll definitely want a slice of this Cajun delicacy – a creamy, twice-cooked custard pie in a shortbread-style crust.

You’ll also want to sample the shrimp boulettes, seafood gumbo, alligator sauce piquante, pork routee, gratons, hogshead cheese, seafood pistolettes, crawfish pies, pralines, beignets, and the list goes on and on.

If food rules in Cajun culture, music isn’t far behind. The French Food Fest follows suit. Attendees will be treated to a non-stop line up of local favorites – from pop rockers Bag of Donuts to swamp pop artist Aaron Foret to Cajun and Zydeco musicians like Waylon Thibodaux and Cajun Toujours.

In addition to food and music, the French Food Festival affords guests a glimpse into other elements of Cajun life, with boat-building, cooking and folklife demonstrations, not to mention an old-fashioned carnival midway, rides, games and much more.
