Directions to Avery Island from New Orleans

Approximate drive time 2 - 2 1/2 hours

Leave New Orleans on I-10 West. After passing the airport exit, you will enter an elevated portion of the Interstate. As soon as you enter the elevated portion, get in the right lane and take the I-310 South exit marked Boutte.

Stay on I-310 South until you are forced to exit. Take the Hwy. 90 West exit (right lane, marked Houma). Stay on Hwy 90 West all the way to New Iberia (four lanes the entire way).* You will pass through Morgan City on an elevated section of the highway and will cross a bridge over the Atchafalaya River at Morgan City. New Iberia is about 40 miles past Morgan City.

As you approach New Iberia, take the Avery Island exit (there will a sign shaped like a bottle of Tabasco indicating the exit). At the stop sign at the end of the exit, take a left on to the Avery Island road (also called Highway 329), which will take you under the Hwy 90 overpass.

Stay on Avery Island road for approximately 6 miles until it dead ends at the Avery Island tollgate.

* At one point, there is a black and white highway sign indicating 90 West/Houma motorists to exit to the right. Do not be tempted to exit the four lane at this point. The goal is to go toward Houma, but not to Houma.
