The selection of Good Food Served Right by the judges was unanimous; as one judge said, the book "epitomizes the essence of a community cookbook." Not only is the book filled with a rich history and a great narrative, it is also representative of the local communities in Upstate New York. Each section of the book effectively highlights a part of the traditional culture and variety of food customs found in this region, and the recipes are a true reflection of the breadth and depth of the local cuisine.
Recipes include Apple Walnut Cake, Black Lake Pan Fish with Almonds, Maple-Candied Sweet Potatoes, Spiced Winter Squash and Magnolia Lane Roast Duck.

It includes menus for 22 different seasonal occasions, ranging from a "Feast for Cinco de Mayo" to "Celebrating the Chile Harvest," guiding the reader through a year's worth of festivities. McIlhenny adds, "I am personally pleased that the judges selected this cookbook as a national winner, because I have a slightly more than academic interest in hot peppers."
