Gerard Delafose
Like all forms of folk music, zydeco is passed down orally (and aurally) from one generation to the next through the act of playing, not by studies of sheet music transcripts. Gerard Delafose stands twice as tall today as he did on grandfather John Delafose's stage in 1989 when this picture was taken, but he's lost none of the bravado that compelled him to bust a move back then with his Mickey Mouse guitar. Nowadays he plays scrub-board in his uncle Geno's band.
