Boozoo Chavis

The roots of zydeco recording reach back directly to Boozoo Chavis' 1954 regional hit "Paper In My Shoe," a primitive hunk of vocals and rhythm that packs the dance floor to this day. Boozoo was born and raised in "Dog Hill" outside of Lake Charles, Louisiana, the site of Boozoo's annual Dog Hill Zydeco Festival. His accordion style is so ferocious that he must wear a plastic butcher's apron to protect the instrument's leather bellows from the destructive salinity of Boozoo sweat! At a Boozoo Chavis and the Magic Sounds gig, fans crowd the bandstand to be near the master and line up to purchase special lingerie items emblazoned with one of the many Boozoo-slogans like "Take 'Em Off And Throw 'Em In The Corner!" He is also a trainer of champion racehorses, including the legendary Motor Dude.
